My story
Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Starfire, a one-year-old female Jack Russell Terrier mix with a heart full of love. Though she may be a little shy at first, her gentle nature and sweet disposition quickly shine through. Starfire is looking for a loving home where she can feel safe and cherished. She enjoys quiet moments and warm cuddles, making her the perfect companion for someone who appreciates a calm and loyal friend."
She is also up to date on vaccines and monthly preventions. As well as being spayed and micro chipped.

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
