Job Description
Overview of the Role
As Marcomms Assistant you will support the division’s Marcomms team, assisting with campaigns
designed to drive profitable sales of titles, developing and strengthening key author brands, and
successfully launching debuts. You will provide significant administrative support, ensuring the smooth
running of all marketing and publicity campaigns, as well as providing creative input where necessary,
helping to develop highly creative consumer marketing and publicity campaigns across physical, digital and audio products.
This role is ideally suited to an organised and detail-focused candidate who has bags of creativity, initiative and energy. They will have a keen interest in children’s publishing and be excited at the prospect of applying creative flair throughout their day-to-day work, ensuring that our campaigns continue to stand out at the forefront of a competitive market.
Key Tasks and Accountabilities:
Assisting the Marketing and Communications Director with diary management and daily ad-hoc tasks to ensure the smooth running of the MarComms Department
Supporting the MarComms team with general administrative tasks including scheduling meetings, setting up monthly M&P planning documents, fulfilling competition prizes, POS mailings, monitoring the general inbox and dealing with enquiries and team schedules
Support the implementation of marketing and publicity campaign initiatives that achieve impact and cut through across a range of channels including radio, print, mobile, social, email, digital, video, and events.
Create and schedule social media posts and provide support to the Marketing team across all HCCB social media channels
Under the supervision of the Marketing and Brand Campaigns Director, build, test and send the HCCB newsletter, in time owning the email schedule and email reporting
Manage the successful distribution of review mailers both in house and via the mailing warehouse
Compiling monthly bookseller submissions and bookseller supplement submissions
Manage requests for books and be across ordering books from the warehouse for press and marketing comps
Assist the wider PR team in supplying assets and key publishing information to press partners
Assisting key authors as required sending post or arranging couriers, cars, accommodation etc
Raising PO’s and logging invoices and managing budget spreadsheet across Marketing and PR to ensure that all administration enabling control and visibility of spend is up-to-date and accurate, including processing expenses and setting up new suppliers.
Look after and logging fan mail
Oversee and maintain database of key journalist contacts
File and log daily press cuttings
Compile weekly Books in the News
Design and oversee the seasonal publicity catalogue and oversee bespoke seasonal mailings e.g. Easter, Valentine’s Day and Christmas
Assisting with updates, maintenance and creation of new content, including landing pages, seasonal and competition pages for the HCCB website
Helping to create presentations, when necessary, in particular for company highlights and for author pre-publication meetings.
Monthly submission of content to World Book Day website
Skills Required:
Proven administrative experience
Ability to communicate confidently, both in writing and verbally
Excellent spelling and grammar
Computer skills: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Excellent organisational skills
Effective at multi-tasking
Able to manage deadlines
A love of children’s books
